WELCOME TO RICKFORD STABLES!

It has been very rewarding launching this new web site as an introduction to our training facility and family, as it has reminded us of very special horses, riders, owners and occasions.  We hope you'll enjoy your visit here as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you.

Rickford Stables was established in 1969 shortly after we, Dale and Terri, were married, and it's name has become synonymous with championship performance horses and riders in a variety of breeds and disciplines. Drawing from our own individual experiences in training, we merged our training philosophies and techniques, resulting in a program which has produced innumberable champions in the Arabian, Half-Arabian, Hackney, Hunter-Jumper, Morgan, American Saddlebred, Quarter Horse and Tennessee Walking Horse breeds on the local, Regional and National level.

We were introduced to the Morgan breed in 1972 and readily appreciated their willingness to be trained and retain what they were taught.  Since then we have gradually turned our focus more and more to developing Morgan horses in the Carriage Driving, Hunter Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Equitation, Trail and Working Western Versatility.  We continue to accept other breeds in these disciplines.

The fact that we consistently produce champions in performance is due to our training techniques being steeped in the traditions of the California Vaquero.  Our horses are easily recognizable for their correct silhouettes, balance, impulsion, classical head seats, and a lightness in the bridle seldom equaled.  We take great pride in the fact that our Amateur and Junior Exhibitor riders can easily show their own horses on a championship winning level.

We are ably assisted by our son, Chris Rickford as another resident Trainer.  Our daughter, Brittany Weibel, who has been busy for the last few years raising her young family, may soon return to train and show with us.  Both have earned individual World/National Championships in their own right over the years.  This unique family approach enables us to cater to the individual needs of specific horses, providing a high ratio of successful training partnerships between horse and rider than is normally enjoyed by other stables.
